"He Just Killed That..."

I've been listening to The Chronic 2001 a lot during long drives. I still remember the first time I heard "The Watcher," I said to myself: "Damn, Dre (or whoever wrote that for Dre) just killed that whole song."

"How would you feel if ni**as wanted you killed?
You'd prolly move to a new house on a new hill.
And choose a new spot, if ni**as wanted you shot.
I aint a thug, how much Tupac in you you got?"

And the whole 3rd verse, but specifically:

"And now we got a new era of gangstas,
Hustlas and youngstas livin' amongst us.
Looking at us now, callin us bustas--
Can't help but reminisce back when that was us."

It always felt like he was just talking throughout the whole song while the rhymes kinda just effortlessly fell into place. To be real complex yet non-chalant with the delivery, that's probably what had my face scrunching up accordingly. Feb also tells me it was M.Mathers who wrote that song which makes sense. And while we're at it, his pick is:

"Travellin' Man" - Mos Def
The hook, the verses, the beat-- That song is just perfect to me. It gives me that feelin, no homo. "This thing called rhymin' is no different from coal minin', we both on assignment to unearth the diamond."

And Dirt's pick:

"The Web" - Black Thought
No hook, just rhyme after rhyme. "I'm a decorated vet-- I regulate and wreck-- never hesitated yet-- I'm gettin' heavy weighted checks. If you would dare ask if I'm dedicated, yes. I spit, live rounds that would penetrate a vest, ni**a. Take ya seats I'mma demonstrate a test."

Rae's pick:

"How Does It Feel" - Pharrell

And Tone's pick:

"The Fire In Which You Burn" - Company Flow
I thought the second verse was sick when I first heard it way back.

"Naturally higher, no need to pass the Dutchee/I'm the living Circle, Circle, dot, dot nobody can touch me."

"I've got more presence than attendance in a class of schizophrenics."

Anyways, hit us up on our myspace with your pick and your reasoning behind it and we'll put it up.

Throwback Song: Brain Food

One of my favorite songs off of The Skywalkers first CD entitled "The Colorblind LP," produced by Monsta.

"Ya last week's news like deja... vu. May I, take a second to say I'm-- the rebirth of cool, modern-day rennai-seyance." Ouch.

Happy Independence Day.
